Yesterday 21 Savage posted a picture of himself (?) on Instagram to endorse Atlanta mayoral candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms. The caption simply read: “I’m standing with @keishabottoms make sure y’all vote Atlanta !!!!” A whole lot of exclamation points!!!!

The endorsement arrives less than 48 hours before the polls open on Tuesday for the mayoral run-off election between Bottoms and her opponent Mary Norwood.

A poll released last week showed Norwood with a 6.2% lead over Bottoms, due in large to the younger vote: the 18-29 year old demographic showed Norwood with 55.6% versus Bottoms 38.9%. Though Andrew Young, a Civil Rights icon, and current Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed both endorsed Bottoms, perhaps an endorsement from one of the biggest rappers in the country could help sway the young vote her way.

A quick call to the Bottoms campaign this morning revealed that while they were not in direct contact with 21 Savage, they were happy to see his support for their candidate. We also reached out to 21 Savage’s management for further comment on his endorsement.
