Last week, rumors surrounding a Spice Girls reunion dominated a very nostalgic corner of pop culture conversation. Turns out, the hot gossip is just that—the quintet is not planning a tour anytime soon—according to Posh Spice herself, Victoria Beckham. In an interview with Vogue on Saturday, Beckham told the fashion publication, point blank: “I’m not going on tour. The girls aren’t going on tour.”
If you’ve been following the Spice Girls news, you’ve seen photos of the girl gang back together earlier this month taken at the home of Geri Horner (that’s Ginger Spice). Beckham told Vogue, “It was so great to see the girls. We had such a fun lunch. It was really, really, really lovely. I still speak to them all individually, but for us all to get together was really lovely.”
So what will a reunion look like, and is it even happening? Beckham kept it vague. “There’s something so strong in the message of what the Spice Girls stood for. What is that in the future? What does that look like? We were just bouncing ideas around. Brainstorming,” she said.
Does, uh, no one else remember that the Spice Girls just reunited, in their native London, for the 2012 Winter Olympics opening ceremony? While it would be so wonderful if they toured (who wouldn’t want to see them perform in our lifetime?), it is a little nuts that a Spice Girls reunion is causing such a ruckus just six years after they reunited the last time. Am I nuts for thinking that isn’t a huge amount of time?
At least we now know no one should expect to drop a couple hundo on floor Spice Girls seats, right? :(
