The best news of 2018 arrived today: Sade, queen of ‘80s R&B and name pronunciation confusion (it’s Sha-day), is reentering the music game after seven long years. On Tuesday afternoon, director Ava DuVernay tweeted that Sade is featured on the soundtrack to DuVernay’s upcoming Disney film A Wrinkle in Time—you know, the live-action, silver screen adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s 1962 YA novel that includes the star-studded cast of Oprah, Mindy Kaling, and Reese Witherspoon? Oprah! Sade! Ava! Dang.
DuVernay, who scored a Best Picture Oscar nomination for 2015's breakthrough Martin Luther King Jr. biopic Selma, revealed that Sade’s track will be titled “Flower of the Universe.” I’m pumped because this marks her first song since a 2011 cover of Bobby Tench’s “Still In Love With You.” It’s been far too long since Sade released music into our sad, sad world, so I’d like to thank Ava DuVernay (and probably Oprah, honestly) for making this happen. Thank you.
A Wrinkle in Time, both the movie and soundtrack, will be released into the world Friday, March 9. Until then, I’m looking for ways to increase the speed that times moves, so I can hear this new Sade song sooner than later. Hit us up with any suggestions: firstname.lastname@example.org.
