Metal Is for the Birds

File this under genius ideas I wish I came up with: Two Minutes to Late Night, a YouTube channel that refers to itself as “the world’s only heavy metal-themed talk show,” found a Ornithologist (that’s science for “person who studies birds”) named Tom Stevenson to compare iconic metal vocalists to bird calls, because some of this scream-shit belongs in the animal kingdom.

Stevenson is pretty much the best in the bird biz when it comes to those feather beasts’ songs—he invented an app called BirdGenie that can identify fowls by their howls, so he’s pretty much the dude for the job. I don’t want to totally ruin the video for you, but he does compare Converge’s “Concubine,” to the northern potoo, King Diamond’s “Welcome Home” to a horned screamer, Deafheaven’s “Dream House” to a barn owl, Lamb of God’s “Black Label” to a mute swan and, well, just watch the damn thing already!
