Post Malone, born Austin Richard Post, is one of the most successful rappers in America. His current single “Rockstar” is No. 1 in the country, Rolling Stone recently profiled him, and his sophomore album, Beerbongs and Bentleys, drops next week and is sure to do well. But lifestyles of the rich and the famous, they’re always complaining: Malone just released a very bloody, potentially NSFW music video for his hit single that shows a rockstar (pun completely intended) already bored of his fame.
The video appears to borrow from heavily stylized video games like Killer 7 and No More Heroes, those that take great pleasure in filling the screen full of digital blood. “Rockstar” adopts the trope as Post Malone and a group of his trusted swordsmen fight a gang of rival warriors. This would be the part where I’d try and break down the plot, but it’s kinda pointless and this screen cap of Posty encapsulates the mood:
There’s a lot of swordplay and fake blood flying in the air, camerawork just hazy enough that I’m not entirely sure if Post Malone was even on set? Like, he could’ve been home, playing Call of Duty and someone built a hologram to take his place. This video won’t make Mr. Post a movie star, but we’ve all got to start somewhere.
Oh, yeah, and 21 Savage is there, too. Watch the video below, but only if you’re not squeamish.
