You may want to sit down for this one: Forbes released its annual list of highest-earning musicians for 2017, and Puff Daddy, aka Diddy, fka Brother Love, is still one of the richest dudes around. He earned $130 million in pre-tax earnings from June 1, 2016 to June 1, 2017, with most of his cash coming from stakes in the brands Sean John, Ciroc, and an extra boost from the Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour, which toured North America last fall.
Since the eligibility period extends all the way back to last summer, that opened the door for Beyoncé to claim No. 2 with $105 million, largely on the back of her Formation World tour (Forbes recently confirmed that she is the richest woman in music.) Drake was close behind with $95 million, riding the Views and More Life wave. Rounding out the top five were The Weeknd ($92 million) and my beautiful cornball boys of Coldplay ($88 million). Forbes also notes that there were only five women in the top 25, so, as always, there’s more work to be done.
Forbes’ recap, which you can check out in full here, also includes this quote from Diddy, who’s just a regular guy:
“I’m the average person,” Diddy told FORBES earlier this year. “I started looking at business at the age of 12, [from] delivering newspapers to working in gas station bathrooms, or even doing things like being a background dancer or a stylist. Whatever I could do to get close to the industry.”
