Cardi B and Ozuna Finally Collaborated and the Result Is Puro Pop-Reggaeton Magic

2017 was the year of Cardi B. 2017 was also the year of the U.S. waking up to Latin pop. (Thanks “Despacito”—or something.) It makes perfect sense then that the Bronx-born rapper would link up with one of the hottest voices in reggaeton right now, Ozuna, and make something really memorable. As Remezcla points out, Cardi has been following Ozuna since earlier this year, and a collab has been a long time coming. But today it’s finally here, and now we have the video to the duo’s first song: “La Modelo.”

If you only know Cardi by her runaway hit, “Bodak Yellow,” then she might surprise on this single; whereas on “Bodak,” Cardi is brash and in-your-face, on “La Modela,” she sings sweetly over a beachy, rum-tinged beat. This song is also a testament to her bilingual musical abilities, as she switches from singing in Spanish to rapping in Spanish to rapping in English. Ozuna, with his flirty but not-your-boyfriend vibes, is a perfect match for this sexy number.

This isn’t Cardi B’s first foray into Spanish. Earlier this year, she released a Latin trap version of “Bodak Yellow,” but “La Modelo” proves she has a lot more to give in these brave new bicultural times. Let’s hope it’s not their last time working together, either.
