Britney Spears, legendary ‘90s icon to some, the Princess of Pop to others (me), is calling it quits. In case your musical appreciation for B. Spears stopped when “...Baby One More Time” or “Toxic” left the radio waves: She’s been busy, dude. Nine studio albums under her belt, a few tours, and most recently, a Las Vegas residency, B. Spears announced on Tuesday that her final hoorah in the form of a final, two-month tour, starting in Washington, D.C. this July and ending in London at the end of August 2018.
The tour is called Britney Spears: Piece of Me, the same title as her Vegas residency and her 2007 Blackout single. After staring at those three smalls words for far too long and scouring Britney Spears Fan sites, I’ve come to...no good conclusions, or even conspiracies about her career’s fate. Sometimes, you burn out, sometimes, you fade away. Sometimes you light that shit on fire with an international arena tour.
While Britney hasn’t said she’s exiting the music game for good, announcing a farewell tour is usually a good indication that she’s hanging in the towel. And god bless her, it’s been a wonderful ride.
We’ve reached out to Spears’ representatives for comment and will update this post if and when we hear back.
