Most artists express excitement, or, at the very least, appreciation, when festivals are announced and their musical monikers are found on big promotional posters. I say most, because Wednesday, 2 Chainz let it be known he wasn’t happy about how New York’s annual Governors Ball festival slotted him on the flyer. Rightfully so:
Frustrated over the positioning, 2 Chainz became vocal about the recent success of his 2o17 album, Pretty Girls Love Trap Music, which went platinum—or as he put it on Instagram, “good drank platinum, vibes platinum, big amount platinum.”
Looking at what artists 2 Chainz is surrounded by on the Gov Ball flyer, it’s easy to see that he raises a solid point. Chainz is arguably more popular than Margo Price, Japandroids, Vic Mensa, and Kelela. Perhaps Third Eye Blind is a more recognizable name, but 2 Chainz has been producing hits for the last decade, some even last year: “It’s A Vibe”! That he is slotted under Dirty Projectors, who put out a no-good extremely-sad album last year, is kind of insulting.
Is this petty? Probably. But 2 Chainz deserve some respect...or at least a higher slot on a digital poster.
